Each Friday night in January the Peggy Guggenheim exhibition will be open till 9pm. Why not come and enjoy a relaxing drink and some delicious tapas at the Art Gallery Café, then catch your last chance to see the exhibition.

Australia’s richest indigenous arts prize set for 2011 CHOGM

 

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day has announced the 2010 Western Australian Indigenous Arts Awards winners and confirmed the awards would also be held in 2011 for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Wakartu Cory Surprise was selected from 185 nominations from across Australia to win the $50,000 prize and Sonia Kurrara was announced as, the winner of the Western Australian Artist Award of $10,000.

The exhibition will run from 31 July 2010 to 3 January 2011 and will include sculpture, video, painting and photography by 5 artists from Western Australia and 11 artists from other parts of Australia.

New Chair for Art Gallery Board

 

The Art Gallery of Western Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Fiona Kalaf as new chairperson for the board of the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day announced her appointment as chairperson on the 14 July 2010.

"Ms Kalaf, who has degrees in fine arts and architecture and a Master of Business Administration, brings outstanding curatorial and commercial skills to her new role as chairperson of the Art Gallery board," Mr Day said.

Ms Kalaf said she is looking forward to her new role.

"It is an exciting time for the Art Gallery with the Perth Cultural Centre redevelopment underway and the 'Peggy Guggenheim: A collection in Venice' exhibition opening on October 9 as part of the 'Great Collections of the World' series," Ms Kalaf said.

The Art Gallery of Western Australia would also like to acknowledge the hard work of Helen Cook, who was chairperson for the past four years and a board member since 2004.

Work on Horseshoe Bridge Complete

 

Perth's iconic Horseshoe Bridge on William Street (between Wellington and Roe Streets) re-opened for southbound traffic on Saturday 26 June 2010.

The southbound lane of the Horseshoe Bridge was re-opened to traffic on Saturday 26 June 2010.

Commuters will now be able to enter the bridge from the Northbridge side.

The northbound lane is expected to be open in late July.
