The Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards is a national art award founded in 2008 to celebrate the diversity and richness of Indigenous art from across the country. The awards acknowledge the significant contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists make to Australian art and culture.
The awards will comprise a group exhibition of outstanding art and three non-acquisitive awards:
-Western Australian Indigenous Art Award of $50,000
-The Western Australian Indigenous Artist Award of $10,000
-People's Choice Award of $5,000
The Western Australian Indigenous Art Award of $50,000 will be awarded to the artist whose work is considered to be the most outstanding body of work in the Awards exhibition.
The Western Australian Artist Award of $10,000 will be awarded to a WA artist acknowledged as currently creating significant work.
The People's Choice Award of $5,000 will be awarded to the artist who receives the highest number of visitor/online votes.
