7 March - 30 June 2013

Year 12 Perspectives is your yearly taste of art by some of the best, brightest and most talented graduating high school artists in the State. An annual barometer of what our youth are thinking and feeling, it is also a rich celebration of the role the arts play in the development of individual identities.

The Year 12 Perspectives exhibition is celebrating its 21st year. Once again this popular annual event provides the platform to showcase selected works from students graduating from Year 12 Visual Arts. Year 12 Perspectives 2012 promises to deliver works of technical excellence and emotional complexity.

A judging panel compiled of representatives from the Education Department, the Art Education Association of WA, Catholic Education and the Art Gallery of WA have selected 63 varied works across a range of media and subject matter, ranging from painting, sculpture, ceramics, to video and drawing.

These talented Year 12 graduates explore themes of social disconnection, the move into adulthood, gender identity, disability and the impact of social media. This exhibition gives us the opportunity to examine these issues, which are of concern to us all, though the eyes of today’s youth. The 62 artists whose works are on display challenge us to reflect, explore and understand the world in which they inhabit and provide us with an opportunity to connect to the experiences of the young people of Western Australia.
