15 December 2010: People's choice Award Winner for the 2011 Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards Is... |

| Gulumbu Yunupingu from Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land, has won the People’s Choice Award of $5,000 in the Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards 2010. Our diverse Gallery audience have responded to the talent and delicate sensibility of Yunupingu’s artworks. Her entrancing paintings on bark and carved wood of Garak, The Universe and Ganyu, Stars, depict an infinite universe of stars, shared by all. They show true innovation, while embodying understandings of Yolngu belief systems and contemporary life. Yunupingu’s works, along with all the other finalists in this year’s Award will be on display until 3 January 2011. |

Nominations now open for the 2011 Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards |

Nominations for the 2011 Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards are now open. Nominations close at 5pm (WST) on Monday 28 February 2011. The Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards is a national award founded in 2008 to celebrate the breadth, diversity and excellence of art from all corners of Indigenous Australia. The awards acknowledge the significant and ongoing contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists make to Australian art, culture and society. |

Introducing a new chair to the foundation council |

The Art Gallery of Western Australia is pleased to welcome Hamish Beck as the new chair of the Foundation Council. Hamish's appointment was official as of 17 September 2010. Hamish replaces Marlene Stafford, who's three year tenure as Foundation Chair came to an end in mid-september. |

In July 2007 a unique partnership began between the Water Corporation and the Art Gallery of Western Australia. On Wednesday 8 September this partnership won a WA AbaF Award for its contribution to environmental sustainability.

The Gallery will be transformed with floral responses to over 120 exhibited works of art from the State Art Collection. An opening night party will be held on Thursday 16 September and the exhibit will be open to the public from Friday 17 September to Sunday 19 September. |

19 May 2010: Exclusive Exhibition from Venice coming to Perth |

The Gallery will host a series of annual spring exhibitions featuring Great Collections of the World, commencing with Peggy Guggenheim: A Collection in Venice from 9 October 2010 to 31 January 2011. Stefano Carboni, Director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia and a native of Venice, said, "Perth will be the only venue for this unique exhibition which will captivate Australian audiences with both the outstanding quality of the art and the intriguing personal story of Peggy Guggenheim."
